Looking Forward to the Second Half of "Book II"
As I have gone beyond the halfway point in the second book in the Barbarians of the Storm series, I took a creative break this past weekend and proofread what’s already been written to fine-tune and edit it.
I typically re-read everything multiple times, as I write. It helps me clear up any muddy details or possible inconsistencies or contradictions in the plot. I’m not sure how most writers do this stuff but it’s always worked best for me to be as familiar with every chapter and detail within, as I progress. Having a Moleskin at my side to jot down notes is also one hell of a life saver.
Anyway, I’ve already started the second half and this part dives right into the civil war that the characters have to content with in order to reach their objective. With that, the civil war arc needs to be split into two part over the second and third book.
I already figured that this would happen, pretty early on, because I don’t want to rush through the war and it has much bigger implications in the future. I also want to develop the characters related to the war because the ones that survive will live on in future books.
While I don’t want to spoil anything, this book features several new characters that I’ve had in my head as far back as the first book and even before that.
Additionally, this book also features some serious swashbuckling, which is a subgenre of adventure fiction that has had as big of an impact on me over the years and sword & sorcery and science fiction. I blame my mum for always watching those Errol Flynn and Tyrone Power movies when I was a little kid.
For now, that’s it! I’ve got to keep on truckin’ and get this thing done!
