Where I'm At - the Path Shifts Even More
...no more Discord or Patreon - other things changing
Some may have noticed I nuked the Discord, as I had talked about doing for awhile due to reasons I already outlined on Discord. I also shut down my Patreon, which I’m sure no one noticed, as I had one patron and I turned off his payments a long time ago, as I wasn’t getting enough traction there to make it worthwhile. At the end of the day, there are too many platforms and they get in the way of what I need to be doing with the creative time I have available.
Substack may be next, honestly, as I don’t have the traction and interaction here that I once did. Also, the things I find Substack most useful and interesting for, no one else seems to care too much about. That being said, I’m also scaling back on Twitter. I’ll still be there because I, like many of you, have a Twitter problem, but that has more to do with wasting time between projects at work. I barely get on there more than once or twice a day on non-work days. Ultimately, I’m mainly going to use it for promotion and announcements. Even then, I may scale back on that too.
I just want to get the next book done, its title has changed, by the way. And then, I need to get into the following book, which will be the last of the 2nd big story arc in the Barbarians of the Storm saga. There is still the 3rd (final) arc planned, but I could take some significant time off once the 2nd arc is done. How long? I don’t know. I guess it’s a matter of how I feel and when that burning desire hits me again. I think the 3rd arc may just be about three books or one big ass fat one that’s basically the size of three books and maybe even broken up that way.
The thing is, I am debating if I want to change the style in which I have written so far to make the final stretch a much more traditionally written fantasy epic. However, if I do that, I am thinking of doing two omnibus versions featuring the nine novels before it and rewriting them in a style/tense/pacing that is considered more acceptable. The thing is, that would be a massive undertaking and could take significant time to do.
Additionally, if I do that, the current versions of the books would become collectors editions I guess, as the refined, better versions would become the only ones available in print and in the omnibus format.
For now, that’s it. I have a lot to ponder, as I work through finishing the next book and writing the one after it.
A shame to see the Discord go because it was always good to chat with you and Pence there, but I understand your reasoning.
Whatever you do, keep the email list! You know this already. Best luck.
