Consider this my short term to-do list, to hold myself accountable to myself… and to you, those who read my Substack, books, and enjoy the Barbarians of the Storm franchise (for lack of a better word).
Since publishing Fenrik 1984 - A Barbarians of the Storm Side Quest last week, I’ve been extremely tired and braindead. I really pushed myself beyond a healthy limit in an effort to get it released before last Wednesday’s big weekly promo thread on Twitter.
The thing is, I didn’t realize how hard I overdid it until yesterday. After breakfast, I laid back down and couldn’t really get out of bed all day. It took every-damn-thing I had just to get up today. But, I’m also dealing with a weird bout of depression, which is just something I’ve battled my whole life and I’m not even sure what the triggers are anymore.
You see, I had big plans yesterday. I intended to crank out a few things that are greatly needed, at least from my point-of-view and because of the routines I’ve set with previous book releases.
Firstly, I need to get the Kindle file done, despite my personal feelings on eBooks being stupid. Since the release of the previous book, Swords Against Bastards, I’ve held off a week on releasing the Kindle versions. The reason for that is because I want those who buy the physical books at launch to receive their copies before someone has access to the digital version instantly.
Secondly, I need to start working on new shirts and merch tied to the new book. While that won’t take long at the design phase, I find Teepublic’s backend stuff to be cumbersome and annoying. But, since I already have people asking for Fenrik 1984 shirts, I need to get to it.
Lastly, I have friends that want to help me market the book at the next level. So, I need to get a lot of stuff prepped for that. It’s really not a lot of work, but man, I’m just fucking tired.
I want to get all of this done in the next few days. That’s my goal.
But I’m really fucking tired, have to deal with a lot of bullshit from the real job this week, and I truly need a nice vacation that I currently can’t afford or have the time for.
That’s it, man.
Hope you get some good rest, man. You deserve it. Getting two books released in just the first few months of 2023 is a noteworthy feat. This week I plan on hammering out my review for Swords Against Bastards.
