Well, as of this morning, I made it! The first act of the book is written!
The first act had so much that needed to be covered but I got through it. As is always the case with this process for me, it allowed me the time to mull over the details and events of the rest of the book, and I have a really strong path forward. I’m pretty excited about knocking out the rest of this book, and to really get into the thick of it all.
This is the first “saga” book in the new arc (the second of three planned). It’s focused on the Drir, which is a war I’ve been building towards since Dan the Destructor. It’s also a big shift in regards to many key characters, their alliances, and their destinies.
Before I thunder forward, however, I plan to go back and proof everything written so far. I need to add in and tweak a few details. I also want to make sure everything is tight and coherent, as I’ve been writing under a lot of stress lately.
I think that the book, so far, is pretty good, though. Counting the prologue, I am 8 chapters deep at roughly 60 pages and 16k words. The chapters are a bit beefier than usual and with what’s ahead, this may be a lengthy installment in the Barbarians of the Storm saga.
The proofing process should take a day or so, and then I’ll be marching forward writing the rest of the book. I think I am on a good trajectory to get this next book in readers’ hands by the end of the year. Well, unless some more real life bullshit gets in my way. I will always update my progress on this Substack, though.
For now, that’s it! I’ve gotta keep moving forward with this next chapter in the main saga.
