I’ve been working tirelessly at trying to get the third book in the Barbarians of the Storm series done. Since this next book is an anthology, there are several short stories, all of which take place in their own time, before the two novels.
So, in an effort to keep things consistent and to avoid contradictions and other potential plot issues, I thought that it was time to create a chronology. Now it’s not yet official but it probably will be, once the next book is published. In fact, I might include it in the book, as a way for readers to keep tabs on where they are.
I also remember how helpful the timelines were when they put them in the Star Wars novels, back when George Lucas still owned everything.
Now, I haven’t defined things precisely in years yet. I just want to keep track of where I feel like the stories need to take place. I also have a rough idea of what every character’s age is and a ballpark of how much time there is between tales like The Cult of the 9 Sons and The Cult of the 1 Mother, as they are tied to one another but take place in different generations.
The dotted line serves as a sort of BC/AD split… or BCE/CE if you prefer. The split being the point where Fenrik got extremely suped-up.
Beyond this, I need to start developing a Wiki type of index for characters, places, events, etc. That’ll be a massive undertaking but the longer I put it off, the more of a pain in the ass it will be to write and build.
