I had a big goal this week. The purpose of the goal was to kick it back into high gear and get the juices pumping. That goal was 5k words written over the course of Monday through Friday during the time that is meant to be my regular writing sessions. Well, with 1.8k words on Monday, I was able to keep the momentum going and crush the goal. As of this morning I finished at 6k words.
I could have gone a bit further even, but I got to a good break in the story, as I reached the final chapter of the second act. I have to write a big fight scene but before doing that and moving into the final act (and bonus short story at the end of the book), I need to go back and re-read some stuff from the previous books. I have some details I need to revisit in order to properly forge the path ahead. Also, consistency is important.
Man, I am striving to get this book done, as it has taken the longest due to life crap. With things finally settling into a more comfortable spot for me, I don’t find myself as distracted and my focus is returning. For awhile there, if I’m being honest, I though that my creative brain was permanently broken or that I wouldn’t find the right headspace to properly focus again.
With that, I need to keep moving ahead and to get back to the researching, planning, and plotting tasks that could take up my weekend. Ideally, I’d like to write a lot more over the weekend, though. But I also don’t want to push myself too hard just because things are clicking well now.
Lastly, the image on this post is a character reference for the devil named Vine, who is the Lord of Nightmares and creator of Nightmare Hell, the setting for the next book’s second act.
