I’m trucking along on the fifth book in the Barbarians of the Storm series. I’m essentially 20 percent of the way through what would be the main story (and possibly only story, I’m not sure on that yet).
Being that this is a very different book in the series, I’ve gotten hung up on a few scenes, trying to massage them into something solid. It’s not a big deal, I’m just working in a much different setting that brings in its own set of rules and tone.
In the end, I just want everything to flow well and for the book to get rolling into the beefier, action-heavy sequences. The earliest part of the books for me are always the slowest moving, as I lay the foundation and formulate how exactly to get to the endgame and how to connect the dots and fine tune the details along the way.
Because of how much I’ve been working on the book, I’ve been a bit lacking on Substack but that tends to happen when I’m in the toughest sections of new books. I’m hoping to be through this section in the next few days to a week, and then things should be going gangbusters again.
As far as all the short stories and ideas I’ve had about monetizing Substack, I just haven’t had time to work on it. Because of that, it’s on hold for now. I just don’t think I can get the books out at the pace I’d like if I have to try and balance both. That’s not to say that the story ideas I’ve mentioned aren’t still in the pipeline. Maybe I just end up using them to make another anthology. We shall see, as I get the fifth book where it needs to be.
For now, that’s it. This is a short but necessary update for those that are already ready for the next chapter in the Barbarians of the Storm series.
