Well, it’s official! Get the Fenrik 1984 - A Barbarians of the Storm Side Quest paperback HERE!
The Kindle version will probably be available within a week. I just greatly prefer paperbacks and wanted to make sure that those who want physical books, have a bit of an edge in getting them in their hands before those with access to instant downloads.
Any-f’n-way, this is the first in the Side Quest series of novels. I don’t think they’ll be that frequent, but they allow me to do things with specific characters outside of the main plot thread that runs through the regular books and feature a ton of characters.
Following the events of Swords Against Bastards, I wanted to give Fenrik some room to breathe, as he had a lot to deal with before going straight to war again. Additionally, I’ve had a big plan for one of the most important characters in the book series, who has not appeared in the flesh yet. I won’t say more than that. However, this story idea, which I had well over a year ago, allowed for me to hit both these birds with one stone.
While this is a “side quest”, the results of what happens here effects everything on the most epic of scales.
This also differs greatly from the previous books in setting, timeframe, and genre. It’s still action heavy and features swords, but it’s more like an ‘80s action B-movie colliding with Fenrik. It also has a lot of homages to things I loved in my childhood growing up in South Florida. There’s many Miami Vice references and homages due to the time, location, tone, and story. There are also some pretty neat cameos.
I’m thinking of writing a piece on all the things that specifically influenced this story, as I did a pretty cool article like that for the Barbarians of the Storm books, as a whole.
Sweet.
