With last week’s update, I talked about the second act of the next book being written with just the third and final act to go. While I started writing the third act, I started to realize that one character’s path in the story needed to shift. So, after getting a chapter done, I decided to pause, reflect, and think about how I wanted to alter that character’s path.
The main reason for this change, is that I didn't think his placement in a certain group dynamic was best for him or that group. It also gives me a better way to push that character towards their planned destination by the end of the story while allowing the group I separated him from to deal with their own issues without a third wheel present and in the way.
Being that there are things I wanted to reveal in that wonky group dynamic, I decided that it would be best to go back and write a scene or two earlier in the book. These scenes are to cover those points and to better setup the removed character’s trajectory going forward. This isn’t a lot of work, but it is something I want to iron out before continuing forward. So, this is my focus this week, but honestly, it should be handled pretty quickly, so that I can get back to finishing the build to the finale and the finale itself.
I still think that I am in pretty good shape to get this book written, edited, and out by year’s end. In fact, I am ahead of where I thought I’d be at this point.
Beyond that, while mulling over the plot changes, I decided to work on the book’s title, which I have. This also began to form the image for the cover in my mind, so I got to work on the cover art and got that done over the weekend and early this morning. The cover and the title are pretty badass and I am really happy with them. Although, there will still be some minor tinkering, I’m sure, until it becomes time to reveal them. I’d like to have the book nearly done before I do that.
Well, that’s it for now! I’ve got work to do!
