"Book II" Is Roughly 80 Percent Done
The main story for Book II of the Barbarians of the Storm series is roughly 80 percent of the way done. For now, that comes to 16 chapters at 117 pages.
Granted, I’m getting this figure by comparing it to the number of chapters in the previous book, which came in at 20, plus an epilogue. This also doesn’t take into account the edits and expansion that will happen, once I get to the end of the first draft. There may end up being a few more chapters in this one, as well, as I am balancing several threads, unlike the first book.
Also, 117 pages might not sound like a lot but with these books, I’m aiming for a pulp novel format and feel, which brings these to less than 200 pages. The previous book, which included a main story and a short story, came in at about 160 pages. Based off of feedback, people seemed to unanimously love the length and quick pace of the story.
I wrote one of the more fun chapters, last week, but now I’m getting to probably the toughest part of the novel, other than getting the first chapter done, which was a challenge to get right.
There are multiple climaxes in this story, due to the multiple threads. However, everything here leads into the third book, which will serve as the end of a loose trilogy. That won’t be the end of the series, but it will be an end to the opening phase of it, as it will also probably be followed by a bit of a time jump, due to what I have planned in the deep future for the characters.
For now, that’s it. I just wanted to give an update on the status over the last week.
