"Barbarians of the Storm - Book II" is Taking Shape
I’ve got about the first third of the second book worked out. I also know what the endpoint is going to be, which is great, as I’m at a point where creativity is just flowing out of me.
I haven’t wanted to rush into it, even though I was ready to go when I completed the first book. Mainly, I like to take the general concept and let it marinate and evolve in my brain for awhile.
To other writers that like to do this, as well, jot down all your thoughts and plot connections in a Moleskin. Especially, when creative thoughts are flowing really damn quickly.
Last night, I had a pretty vivid dream that was probably inspired by my enthusiastic playing (and replaying) of the three Dark Souls games, over the last year, which provided good breaks from my writing, my real job and the bullshit of the real world.
That dream left me with a concept that I want to explore in the second book and since I have a group of characters that need their own adventure, I think that I’ve got something really cool instore for them now.
My current goal is to have the first chapter started by the end of the week. I’m a bit hung up on one detail but getting started is always the hardest thing. Once that river starts flowing, though, it’s pretty damn hard to contain.
I’m also going to be working on the first short story anthology, which will center around Fenrik. I know what the stories will be and they’ll all be set before the events of the first novel, Dan the Destructor. They will also provide backstory and context to some of the things that were casually mentioned in that book.
As of yet, I’m not sure which book will be released first but I think that they’ll both come out pretty close to one another.
Lastly, I think that I’m going to release the first few chapters of the first book, here on Substack, in an effort to promote it and get people excited enough to take a shot on it.
Dan the Destructor - Barbarians of the Storm, Book I is available on Amazon here. The pulp-sized paperback is just $9.95 while the Kindle version is $5.99 (or FREE for Kindle Unlimited subscribers). Paperbacks are cooler, though.
