So progress with Book III has been halted after Hurricane Ian pretty much destroyed my area. It’s also why I haven’t given an update here in over a week.
Luckily, my home is okay, as far as I can tell, but I don’t have power and might not for another week (or longer). I’ve been staying with friends but that’s probably only through today, as I probably have to go back to my real job tomorrow. Then I’ll probably be staying with family, as they’re much closer to my work. I’m currently over an hour away from there.
Anyway, my brain has been fried and numb and I haven’t done much outside of vegging out, watching news updates, and drinking bourbon.
Fort Myers Beach, where I lived nearly 50 percent of the time over the last dozen years, because it was my girlfriend’s home, is devastated to the point that I don’t see how it can ever come back. It certainly never will in it’s unique way. That really hits me the hardest. Especially, since there are so many locals there I’ve gotten to know over the years. I have no idea what their status is and I’d have to assume that some of them didn’t make it.
Life is significantly altered going forward. I just hope that over the next week or so, most of us here can start to feel any sense of normalcy again. I barely had the ability to focus on writing this.
Keep your head up.
